A metal stem is inserted into your thighbone and a hip ball is attached to the neck of stem. The hip ball is fit into  liner or a socket. The ball and liner socket together form a new joint. The liner socket is inserted in a metal shell that in turn is anchored to your pelvis.

After the THR Surgery

A THR surgery takes about 1 1/2 hours. There are some specific instructions that patients must follow before and after the total hip replacement surgery to improve recovery time and results.  The recovery starts with a physiotherapist within 24 hours of the surgery being performed. The physiotherapist helps the patient sit up, get in and out of bed, and some activity that helps in getting used to movements that need to be more frequent.
